MicWire loved Stoke Sings!

Stoke Sings was a joyful day of song organised by Cllr Lillian Dodd of Stoke City Council and Penny Vincent of Staffordshire University.

Our choir leader Kate joined the organising committee at its conception in August 2018.

“It’s been such a joy to see the

event blossom from a single idea

into such a fantastic and revered

event for the city!” – Kate C

MicWire were thrilled to be invited to sing on 2nd February 2019 in the evening performance alongside some of the towns other really amazing choirs.  We chose to sing  ‘The Longest Time’ by Billy Joel which is a tricky piece in 6-part harmony that we performed a cappella for the first time, on this huge stage, in front of our biggest ever audience: It was absolutely exhilarating!

The programme included:

Swan Bank Gospel Choir

Potters Community Choir

Loud Mouth Women

Fulford Community Choir

University Hospital Choir

Peace Through Folk Choir

Endon Community Choir

Inter Theatre Stoke Choir

Staffordshire Community Choir

Village Voices

Clay Chorus

Cornerstone Singers

Keele Women’s Community Choir

Us (MicWire)

Mow Cop Community Choir

dDeaflinks Silent Choir

The evening culminated with a huge finale  – a massed sing with all the choirs and audience! The music especially for the occasion was written by Stephen Seabridge and Greg Stephens. Here’s a link to the encore:

The evening raised money for the Mayor’s chosen charities:

Approach for Positive Dementia Support

Stoke on Trent Foodbank

Equal Chances for young people

We’re very excited that there may be another Stoke Sings! in the pipeline again for next year. Many congratulations to Mayor Dodd, Penny and all the organising committee for such a successful and enjoyable event.

MicWire are now starting to learn new repertoire for our next planned performance on another big stage – The Crewe Lyceum! New members are very welcome – we rehearse at the Lifestyle Centre in Crewe every Wednesday from 7:30-9pm and would love to welcome you along.
